She posted this question few days ago. And it’s been bugging me ever since.
Some food for thought in this video:
What I have to Offer from Eliot Rausch on Vimeo.
If you have an hour to spare, you can listen to his full speech. I did. And it was an hour well spent.
Love the speech and will listen to it fully right after this. Unfortunately or luckily I have no wise words to offer you regarding your question above. But I do know it's an interesting way getting there. That is the one certain thing I know.
But am guessing you would become you. You would become what you already are.

thinks that it's all in this little part that says 'holds my (!!!) personal sense of propriety in check' – of course it's my sense and not theirs. and no one but me is holding me back. but we shouldn't underestimate the pressure we, not they, create to fit into often imaginary expectations. to me that's what got me thinking. people do worry about their own problems, you're right, but the ones close to us have an opinion about what we do. rightfully so or not is another questions. it's fairly easy to go against the whole wide world, much harder if you fear to alienate yourself from parents, siblings, friends, your partner, your kids… all the other things you point out, general fear and doubt, are also there. fun, isn't it, this thing called life
