Making art, making stuff, making fun

darling

After making some temporary tattoos  last week, I seem to have gone on the ‘making mission’ and just had to have a go at making some printed t-shirts.

Judging by the first result you can see below, it’s a good job I’ve used an old t-shirt to do some practice first:

I was so impatient to see the result and I couldn’t wait to see how the image you see at the start of the post transferred onto this trusty, old and worn out t-shirt. The ‘damage’ you can see in the top left corner is the result of my impatience.

I foresee some very late nights coming up, digging through my wardrobe for more t-shirts to ruin practice on and to experiment some more. Who needs sleep anyway when you can make t-shirts, right?

Love this:

PS – Sorry I’ve not been around here much recently, after this illustration got published this month, I’ve been working on yet another commissioned illustration for Red magazine which comes out in August, woohoo!  Happy days :)

Time to commit

No committment

How long since I last posted anything here? It’s time to get some serious commitment back again. This is just not funny anymore.

While it’s been quite here I have managed to get my blog moved over to WordPress (oh, I do like it here).

And I’ve managed to get one of my illustrations published in Red magazine, yey! (It is so weird and wonderful to see your work and your name published in a magazine, I nearly fainted with excitement when I saw it.)

It seems that life got the better of me this year and I’ve spent more time on wondering why I’m not updating my blog more than I spent on actually doing anything about it. Well, it’s time for a kick up my backside and getting back on track.

My current favourite and a real eye-opener, found via Melissa:

What to say when you don’t know what to say

How strange life can be. Just when you reach that point when you think you want to give it all up, an opportunity comes along and turns your world upside down. For the better, much better.

Last couple of weeks have kept me busy with kind of work that I never thought I would get my hands on. I was given an opportunity to draw for someone I never dreamt would “knock on my door” and ask me to contribute. It’s still a bit of a secret until my work gets published, but as soon as I can I will spill the beans and tell you all about it, I promise! :)

And I’m starting to look into doing more things here. To evolve and to get onto the next step, wherever that next step might be. Just like this illustration on this post says, I don’t know where things are going to go or get to, but I’m going to do more. More of what, remains to be seen.

I love this video. I love their story. I want to be more like this. We need more people like this.

Reason to wonder

Quote by Vasudev

I drew this for this lovely lady who’s been going through the similar doubts I have recently been going through and wondering if there is any point in carrying on with this whole creative thing we like to call art. So instead of a long, winding answer to her question I thought I would put this quote up for her and anyone else who might be going through the same doubts right now.

Doubts are good. Well, if the quote said so, it must be true, right? Right.

On the other hand, I think it’s important not to fall into the pits of despair for too long. Longer you stay inactive, harder it gets to get back into it. Longer you stay away from sharing your work and interacting with others out there, more likely you are going to find yourself in an episode that might look similar to this:

Not that I would ever, ever behave like this. No, not me. Never. :)

PS – I know there is a lot of bright yellow in my drawing, but I’m desperate for sun and some warmth right now, so I had to make do with extra lashings of sunny yellow on my drawing instead. Desperate times called for desperate measures.
